University of Pittsburgh Center for Advanced Manufacturing (UPCAM)

The Swanson School of Engineering (SSoE) has determined that Advanced Manufacturing is an area of significant and future growth, requiring more focus and attention to maximize Pitt’s contribution to the field. The UPCAM focuses on organizing and coordinating research related to manufacturing science and Advanced Manufacturing, supporting both critical discoveries and students’ ability to participate in research efforts. By encouraging research collaboration, the UPCAM attracts some of the most renowned researchers in the field, including but not limited to Pitt faculty members.

Pittsburgh Quantum Institute

A university and national laboratory collaborative center entitled Pittsburgh Quantum Institute (PQI) which places an emphasis on quantum science and engineering, spanning the natural sciences, engineering, and industry.

Advanced Magnetics for Power and Energy Development

A new consortium entitled Advanced Magnetics for Power and Energy Development (AMPED), an innovation ecosystem and new educational programs for advancing soft magnetic materials and component technologies spanning fundamental science to end-use application.

eXtremeMAT

A multi-lab consortium focused on developing cross-cutting "tool sets" to accelerate the discovery and scale-up of new and enhanced materials for extreme environments and be scaled up for manufacturing in a cost-effective manner.

SAMI

The Science-based Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Institute (SAMI) was established in 2020 and combines the strengths of NETL’s energy computational scientists, data scientists, and subject matter experts with strategic partners to drive solutions to today’s energy challenges. The institute has a vision to leverage science-based models, artificial intelligence, and machine learning (AI/ML) methods, data analytics, and high-performance computing to accelerate applied technology development for clean, efficient, and affordable energy production and utilization.
